Frequently Asked Questions About the One Day SAT Workshop
Why do I need the Ace the SAT Workshop?
The SAT, PSAT, and ACT test more than just your skills in math, reading, vocabulary, grammar and writing. They are also testing your logic skills and your ability to handle a stressful situation. Your teachers and even other test prep courses are targeting the academics tested by the exams. We are targeting the mechanics of these tests. These test makers have been designing tests for over 70 years, and they have made a science of knowing our human brains and physical capabilities. For example, we can only pay attention for 6 to 8 minutes. This is why they plant time waster questions 6 to 8 minutes into each section. You lose track of the time, don't finish, and you get a lousy score. Acting on this insight alone can mean 100 points. These are pointers other programs don't always offer. We fill this gap. Knowing how the game is played is an invaluable competitive edge. Our Ace the SAT Workshops can give you this edge.
Winning merit financial aid is a very important reason for prepping for the College Boards. Depending on your grades and performance on the SAT or ACT you could earn between $6,000 to $30,000 a year in merit scholarship money. That's $24,000 to $120,000 over your four year college career. That's a lot of money you won't have to work a job for or take out a loan. Usually all you have to do to keep your scholarship is to maintain a 3.0 GPA while in college. Not a bad payoff for investing time and effort now in preparing for your entrance exams. Our Ace the SAT Workshop and your practice will enable you to exceed even your own test-performance expectations.
Who is Advance Test Review?

We are specialists in the SAT, PSAT and ACT, and we are nationally recognized for our LSAT, GMAT, and GRE prep. Since 1972 we have been helping students maximize their scores, financial aid, and career opportunities through expert instruction and personal concern for each student. Besides our Ace the SAT Workshops and comprehensive review programs we conduct top notch SAT after school and weekend programs for private high schools and sports organizations . We are frequently called upon by coaches and counselors to help their athletes' meet NCAA and/or Ivy League requirements. For the busy student or those with learning differences we are the private tutors who not only offer the student the academic remediation needed for success but also the confidence to score their personal best.
Who should take the Ace the SAT Workshop?
Everybody who has to take the SAT, PSAT or ACT. All students, whether preparing for college admissions or trying to qualify for outstanding middle and junior high school programs by John Hopkins and other institutions, should take this one-day workshop three to eight weeks before they are scheduled to sit for their exam. Some wise parents send their freshmen and sophomore students because they want their children to see why they have to take Geometry, etc. in high school. Because the SAT, PSAT and ACT are constantly evolving and adding new question types we suggest students repeat the workshop every testing year (September to June) to keep up-to-date with all the new test changes and attack strategies.
What if I try the strategies and they don't work for me?
Great question. Your success on the SAT, PSAT and ACT depends on practicing what you learned at the Ace the SAT Workshop. Our vast experience in helping students has taught us that each student is an individual. By this time in your life you have your own way of thinking and even writing cursive. You sure don't make your B or R the way you were taught in first grade, do you? This is true about your reading and logical reasoning skills too. If what we recommend in the Ace the SAT Workshop doesn't work for you, call us at 610-449-6311 or e-mail us at advancetr@aol.com. We have a dozen or more techniques you can try. Contact us and we'll find one that fits your personal needs.
What books are included in the Ace The SAT Workshop?
The books, handouts and study materials you will receive at the Ace the SAT Workshop are very similar to the study guides provided in the Advance Test Review comprehensive classroom programs costing $600 to $995.00 with one major difference: We are always on the hunt for the best SAT books available. They have been selected and in some cases redesigned for you to use for self-study. As you go through the material, don't hesitate to contact us when you run into a question you don't understand or when a strategy isn't working for you. If you need individual tutoring or a longer remedial classroom course, we can help, but frankly, only about 15% of our Ace the SAT Workshop students need any additional help. Once you learn the testing traps and how to overcome them, you usually can fix your academic holes quite quickly on your own or with a teacher at school. Remember, you are being tested on only a finite amount of information and not the total knowledge base of the universe.
How can I get the Ace the SAT Workshop presented in my school?
Easy. Just call us at 610-449-6311 or e-mail us at advancetr@aol.com. All we need are table or desk seating for each student, an overhead projector with screen, blackboard (for the math of course), and tables and chairs for the teachers. We provide the instructors, the books and handouts, and four hours of dynamic information necessary to ace the SAT, PSAT and ACT. Pricing is based on distance we have to travel and the number of attendees. Though we prefer classes of under 30, we have presented the program assembly style in auditoriums.
A one morning SAT program sounds too good to be true. What's the catch?
No catch. Really, no catch. The Ace the SAT Workshop presents the rules of the game and the traps designed to slow you down and attract you to the wrong answers. We show you how to turn these impediments against the test itself to increase your chances of seeing the right answer. For example, did you know there are four patterns for wrong answers in the reading comprehension and that it is easier to recognize the wrong answer than the right one? This helps you to cross out more wrong answers which then helps you see the right answer more quickly. After you practice the techniques you will learn in the Ace the SAT Workshop any questions you will be getting wrong won't be because of the traps programmed into the test, but because you don't know the academic material being tested. Now you can go and study the math, grammar or whatever school subject you don't know for an even higher score yet. Remember, we are giving you the insights and tools to beat your test. You have to put in the time and practice to make them work for you.
I'm already taking a SAT course. Do I need this one too?
Yes, indeed you should take this Ace the SAT Workshop. Most other SAT prep courses are focused on your academic performance and skills as they should be. These other programs often do not have the time to go through all the traps and impediments embedded into your exam to make you fail. This Ace the SAT Workshop zooms in on these score-depressing obstacles and gives you specific attack strategies to turn them into opportunities to boost your score significantly. As far as we know only our own Advance Test Review comprehensive classroom programs include all the countermeasures covered in the Ace the SAT Workshop.
What if I already have the books? Can I get a reduction in cost?
No. We are continually updating our materials and selecting the best SAT books available based on the latest trends and changes in the test. Even though the book covers may be the same, there can be significant changes inside. We do offer a discount to repeating students. We suggest that students take this program every testing year (September to June) to keep ahead of all the changes introduced each year..
Will the Essay be covered?
Yes, the Essay will most certainly be covered. The Essay has more of an impact than you would think on your SAT Writing score. If you get a 10 on the Essay, you can actually get 6 wrong on the multiple choice section and still earn an 800 perfect Writing Section score. On the other hand, if you have only a 4 Essay score and are perfect on the multiple choice section (absolutely none wrong), you'll score around a 690. Because of the scoring weight of the Essay we will be giving you quite a few insights on how to construct a 10 to 12 score Essay.
What if I don't improve after taking the Ace the SAT Workshop?
Your improvement depends on you. The Ace the SAT Workshop is giving you the tools and insights you need to ace your exam. Just as practice in any sport will improve your game, the same applies to getting ready for the SAT, PSAT or ACT. This is why one of your textbooks will always be the latest College Board book of released SATs available. Practice makes perfect as the old adage says. After you get your official scores, call or e-mail us immediately at advancetr@aol.com so we can hand score your results to make sure every right answer was counted towards your score. Last year, for example, we had a student who had gone down 100 points in her math score. We hand scored her answer sheet and had her parents request ETS to hand score it too. She ended up with not a 550 but an 800. These mistakes are infrequent, but they do happen. In any case we will be glad to review your results and develop a personal self-study plan to help you score your personal best. Your success is our success.
